Key responsibilities
Planning, Teaching and Curriculum Development
Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging lessons in Economics and Business Studies, aligned to the British curriculum
Set ambitious and challenging learning objectives informed by students’ prior attainment and target outcomes
Design coherent sequences of lessons that develop key skills such as analysis, evaluation, data interpretation, and extended writing
Use real world examples, case studies, and current affairs to contextualise learning and deepen understanding
Differentiate effectively to meet the needs of all learners, including high achieving students and those requiring additional support
Select and prepare high-quality teaching resources, including digital tools and data sets, to support effective learning
Contribute to the development of schemes of work, ensuring progression, rigour, and alignment across Key Stages
Assessment, Feedback and Student Progress
Use a range of formative and summative assessment strategies to monitor and evaluate student progress
Provide clear, targeted, and constructive feedback to improve students’ analytical writing, exam technique, and application of knowledge
Track and analyse student performance data to identify trends, support underachievement, and stretch high-performing students
Prepare students effectively for external examinations, including developing strong exam technique and confidence
Support students in reflecting on their progress and setting meaningful academic targets
Communicate student progress effectively to parents through reports, consultations, and data tracking
Online Classroom Practice
Establish a purposeful, disciplined, and engaging online learning environment
Maintain high expectations of student behaviour and academic engagement in line with school policies
Deliver well-structured lessons that promote critical thinking, discussion, and independent learning
Use a range of teaching strategies, including case study analysis, debates, data interpretation, and collaborative tasks
Encourage students to think critically about economic and business issues at both a national and global level
Manage lesson time effectively to maximise learning outcomes
Set meaningful independent work and homework that consolidates and extends classroom learning
Demonstrate awareness of diverse cultural and economic contexts when delivering content
Essential criteria
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification
Strong subject knowledge in Economics and Business Studies
Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and student wellbeing
Desirable criteria
Experience of teaching Economics and Business Studies across Key Stages 4 and 5, including iGCSE and International A Level
Strong subject knowledge, including areas such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, business strategy, finance, and data analysis
Experience of teaching students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) or English as a Second Language (ESL), with the ability to scaffold complex concepts
Proficiency in the use of digital platforms such as Microsoft Teams and iSAMS
Strong ICT skills, with the ability to integrate technology to enhance teaching, assessment, and student engagement
Experience of using real world case studies and current economic contexts to enrich learning
Previous international teaching experience or experience working with diverse student cohorts
A commitment to developing students’ financial literacy, analytical thinking, and global awareness
